Comcast ( NASDAQ: CMCSA ) is launching a new streaming package for $20 per month to complement its high-speed Internet offering and target the lower end of the direct-to-consumer market.
It's offering Now TV to its Xfinity Internet customers, with no long-term commitment or equipment required.
The new service is built off of the Now TV platform from its European Sky subsidiary , targeted as a budget option vs. Sky's more costly packages.
It will include more than 40 live channels (including some from A&E, AMC, Hallmark and Warner Bros. Discovery) as well as 20 integrated free ad-supported channels and Peacock Premium at no extra cost.
“Now TV will be something that we can have as a companion to broadband. It’s a streaming product that really provides the best of Comcast,” Comcast Cable chief Dave Watson told an investor conference.
It's a "great starter video service, priced attractively, but still will be financially accretive for us," he added.
The FAST channels will include offerings from NBC, Sky and Xumo Play (part of Xumo, the joint streaming solution Comcast is presenting with rival Charter ( CHTR )).
