Cullen/Frost Q3: Expansion Efforts Begin To Bear Fruit

Like so many regional banks, the past few months have been a bit frustrating for leading Texan player Cullen/Frost Bankers, Inc. ( CFR ). Operationally, there has arguably been very little to complain about here, with Frost delivering some welcome operating leverage and strong earnings growth in its most recent quarter. Related to that, its multi-year branch expansion program appears to be finally bearing fruit in terms of positive EPS accretion. Unfortunately, that hasn't done much for its shares. While the market has continued to grind higher, Frost has basically treaded water since I upgraded it to "Buy" in August , albeit this is broadly in line with the regional bank space....
