- The U.S. Dept of Justice is evaluating a lawsuit to block Korean Air's planned purchase of Asiana Airlines.
- The U.S. regulator believes the combination may hurt competition on passenger and cargo traffic between South Korea and the U.S., according to a Politico report on Thursday, which cited people familiar. No decision has been made on whether the DOJ will go forward with a suit and nothing is imminent.
- A possible lawsuit would be the first time that the U.S. has tried to thwart a deal between foreign airlines. A potential suit comes after the Dept. of Justice filed an antitrust suit to block JetBlue Airways' ( JBLU ) proposed merger with Spirit Airlines ( SAVE ).
