- Electronic Arts ( NASDAQ: EA ) is reportedly nearing a deal to pay £488M (just over $589M) to England's Premier League to hold its soccer videogame license.
- That's one of the largest such deals struck by the league, which sits at the top of the English football league system, Sky News reported.
- The six-year deal reportedly more than doubles the exiting arrangement, and it would ensure EA remains as the league's lead partner.
- That's a key milestone for EA as it forges a soccer-game future after breaking ties with soccer's governing body FIFA after a 30-year team-up. EA has had commercial ties to the Premier League dating to 1998, Sky said, and it's been a lead partner to the league since 2016.
- Last spring brought the announcement that the perennial top-selling FIFA videogame franchise would continue on at Electronic Arts under a new name in 2023: EA Sports FC.
