Equinor ( NYSE: EQNR ) said Thursday it made a commercial discovery near its producing Troll field in the North Sea, with preliminary estimates putting the size of the find at 17M-47M recoverable boe, mostly oil.
The company said the new Rover Sor discovery is the seventh find in the area since 2019, and work underway to coordinate their development by utilizing existing infrastructure.
"As this discovery is close to the Troll field and other discoveries we have made in the area, we can already now state that it will be commercial," said Geir Sortveit, senior VP for exploration and production west operations.
Joint venture partner DNO ( OTCPK:DTNOF ) ( OTCPK:DTNOY ) said Rover Sor, "together with a string of recent discoveries in the area," may be tied back to the Equinor-operated Troll field ~10 km to the east.
Earlier this week, Equinor ( EQNR ) reported an annual record $74.9B adjusted operating profit for 2022 .
