Sibanye Stillwater ( NYSE: SBSW ) -2.7% pre-market Friday after reporting four deaths at its Burnstone gold mining project in South Africa following the collapse of a newly constructed surface waste rock conveyor.
Sibanye said five contractor employees were installing a head pulley on the conveyor infrastructure when the conveyor collapsed, killing four of the five and seriously injuring the other.
The National Union of Mineworkers expressed concern about the fatal incident, calling for an investigation into the company's practices at the shallow gold mine it is developing at Burnstone.
Sibanye Stillwater ( SBSW ) is the "primary realistic option" for investors to own low-cost exposure to platinum and palladium mining, Paul Franke writes in an analysis posted recently on Seeking Alpha .
