Update 7:50am on April 4 : Adds Globe Life response.
- Globe Life ( NYSE: GL ) fell 0.7% amid a short pitch at the Sohn Investment Conference in New York City.
- The short call was pitched by Orso Partners' Nate Koppikar at Next Wave Sohn, according to people attending the charity conference.
- Globe Life responded to the short call in a statement to Seeking Alpha.
- "The articles referenced by Nate Koppikar in his April 3, 2024 comments contain conclusions about Globe Life and its subsidiaries that we consider to be inaccurate and misleading," Globe Life said in an email. "Importantly, the litigation at the center of those articles was dismissed by a district court with prejudice on April 3, 2024."
- "The plaintiff in that case attempted to try her case in the press and the courts, but all claims against American Income Life (AIL) were dismissed because they lacked merit as AIL has consistently maintained," Globe Life continued. "AIL believes opportunistic plaintiffs’ lawyers have sought to profit by orchestrating a public relations campaign against AIL based on misleading and self-serving allegations. As such, AIL feels vindicated by the outcome as we do not tolerate the behaviors asserted in the articles."
