ICSH: A Love Letter To Cash

My Dearest Cash,
You are my rock, my refuge, my quiet comfort in a world of such volatility and frivolity. So many others promise endless growth and excitement but deliver apprehension and self-doubt and ultimately pain. But you, my darling, are the calm in the storm.
You are a vision of virtue and dependability in a world awash in perilous uncertainty.
How oft I've forgotten and neglected you -- to my regret! How often I should have tied myself to the mast like Odysseus but did not. In my foolishness, I did not recognize the siren song of excessive risk. I didn't know it would sound so much like FOMO. It is always just after I give in, that I succumb to the temptations of momentum and find myself dashed against the rocks, that I need you most. But you are gone, because I sent you away.
With you by my side, I know I am safe, that I can navigate any storm or downturn. In some strange way, you make me braver. Your gentle and unwavering presence give me the confidence to explore, to invest, to take calculated risks. You give me the space to breathe, to stay calm, to keep moving forward even amid setbacks. And your presence in my portfolio is a gentle reminder to pursue those investments that produce more of you.
True wealth is to be found not in things that take you away from me but in things that give me more of you.
And yet, paradoxically, the more of you I have, the freer I feel to spend, to invest, or even to give some of you away to others who need you more than I do.
It isn't just safety you give but freedom. Where once I was bound by the chains of illiquidity and the whims of the market, now my opportunities and optionality abound. Like a moth's cocoon, your presence is a symbol not just of what is but what can be -- indeed, what will be, in due time. You give me the chance to buy without selling. What a gift!
It's no wonder so many wise investors have a fondness for you. What was it that Warren Buffett said of you once? That you are "a call option on everything with no expiration date or strike price"?
Thank you, my dearest Cash, for saving me from the regrettable decisions I would have otherwise trapped myself into making. Thank you for being always ready to make intangible opportunities tangible. Thank you for yielding so much today.
The freedom, safety, and peace of mind you give are truly irreplaceable, and for that, I am eternally grateful.
Yours truly,
Austin
