- IMAX ( NYSE: IMAX ) and AEON Entertainment have a new deal that will add seven brand-new IMAX with Laser locations across Japan this year.
- That's a follow-up to a deal the two announced in April for two new locations, outside Tokyo and Osaka.
- IMAX has almost tripled its Japanese presence over the past decade, moving from 16 locations in 2012 to 41 today, and the country amounted to IMAX's third-highest-grossing global market in 2022, with more than $73M in box office.
- IMAX with Laser is the company's best 4K laser projection system.
- Along with taking a chunk of Japanese box office with blockbusters like Avatar: The Way of Water and Top Gun: Maverick, IMAX earned a record $40.2M in global box office with Japanese-language releases in 2022.
