Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC) just announced a new AI chip to better compete with Nvidia and AMD. Its shares are up 3.0% on Thursday.
Intel unveils the Gaudi3
The new artificial intelligence product called the “Gaudi3” will go up against the H100 by Nvidia and the MI300X by Advanced Micro Devices.
Details of the new chip that Intel says will launch in 2024 are yet to be revealed. The multinational has been making the Gaudi accelerators ever since it acquired Habana Labs in 2019.
The announcement arrives more than a month after Intel Corporation reported its financial results for the third quarter that handily topped Street estimates. The semiconductor behemoth also issued solid guidance for revenue in October.

On Thursday, Intel also unveiled the fifth generation “Xeon” chip for server and embedded system markets – and the “Core Ultra” chip for laptops and personal computers running on Microsoft Windows.

Both products come integrated with specialised artificial intelligence component called the “NPU” which helps AI programs run faster. Pat Gelsinger – the Chief Executive of Intel Corporation said today at an event in New York:
We’ve been seeing the excitement with generative artificial intelligence. We think the AI PC will be the star of the show for the upcoming year.
Earlier this year, the California-based company was said to be working on AI apps similar to ChatGPT as Invezz reported here .
