TC Energy ( NYSE: TRP ) said Friday a third-party investigation into a December oil spill from its Keystone pipeline concluded the incident was caused by a crack in a weld that occurred at the time of the pipeline's construction and eventually ruptured under pressure.
The company said the affected pipe segment was subjected during construction to "inadvertent bending stresses," initiating a small crack that became a pipe failure after a decade of operations.
TC Energy ( TRP ) said the findings were consistent with the conclusions from an earlier metallurgical analysis released in February .
The company was ordered to commission a third-party investigation by the U.S. Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Administration after the Keystone pipeline leaked nearly 13K barrels of oil into a Kansas creek in December .
TC Energy ( TRP ) shares are attractively valued and a good pick for income-oriented investors, Leo Nelissen writes in an analysis published recently on Seeking Alpha .
