Malaysia Airlines said on Monday it will buy 20 Airbus ( OTCPK:EADSF ) ( OTCPK:EADSY ) A330neo widebody jets - 10 directly from Airbus and 10 to be leased from Avolon - as it seeks more fuel-efficient jets in the current travel rebound.
The A330neo will join Malaysia Airlines' fleet of six long-range A350-900s and gradually replace its A330ceo aircraft, the company said.
The A330-900 model being purchased is a re-engined version of the original A330 that Malaysia Airlines already operates, so pilots will not need to go through expensive retraining.
Parent Malaysia Aviation has reported positive cash flow since Q4 2021, with capacity rebounding to 60% of pre-COVID levels.
Airbus ( OTCPK:EADSF ) ( OTCPK:EADSY ) recently said it delivered 46 planes in July and confirmed a major new order from China for nearly 300 jets .
