- Netflix ( NASDAQ: NFLX ) is looking at a number of external candidates to take over its new venture into an ad-supported service tier, The Wall Street Journal reports - execs to fill a role that has quickly become key to a subscriber growth turnaround at the streaming pioneer.
- That includes Pooja Midha, chief growth officer of Comcast's ( CMCSA ) ad unit, who's interviewed with Netflix ( NFLX ) "extensively," according to the report. But Netflix is also considering Peter Naylor, Snap's ( SNAP ) VP of sales for the Americas (and a former Hulu exec).
- Netflix has weighed creating an ad-supported version of each of its current three service tiers, the report adds - and the company is open to sharing ad revenue with a partner who helps it enter the business.
- Netflix ( NFLX ) had been linked to talks with a number of potential partners with existing ad expertise - including Google ( GOOG ) ( GOOGL ), Magnite ( MGNI ), and even Comcast FreeWheel ( CMCSA ) - and co-CEO Ted Sarandos confirmed at the Cannes Lions ad conference that the company is "talking to all of them right now."
