Philippine Airlines on Wednesday said it plans to order nine A350-1000 wide-body planes from Airbus ( OTCPK:EADSF ) ( OTCPK:EADSY ) to expand its fleet.
The national carrier will fly the planes on non-stop routes between Manila and cities in North America including New York and Toronto.
According to a memorandum of understanding with Airbus ( OTCPK:EADSF ) ( OTCPK:EADSY ), the first of the nine planes is scheduled for delivery by Q4 2025, with the remaining ones arriving until 2027.
Philippines Airlines also has rights to buy three more A350-1000 for additional long-haul flights. The A350 is capable of flying 8,700 nautical miles or 16,100 kilometers non-stop.
By the end of March, Airbus ( OTCPK:EADSF ) ( OTCPK:EADSY ) had received 928 firm orders for the A350 jet. More than 520 of the planes are currently in operation among 39 airlines, primarily on long-haul flights.
