Seagate ( STX ) and Western Digital ( WDC ), along with Japan’s Toshiba are the only surviving companies making hard disk drive (HDD) storage systems. By way of background, since 1956, over 218 companies have entered the HDD market, but most have disappeared due to bankruptcies or mergers and acquisitions.
