Shundrawn Thomas, president of Northern Trust Asset Management, a leading global asset management firm with $1 trillion in assets under management, has been named one of “2020’s Most Influential Black Executives in Corporate America” by Savoy, the foremost African American business and lifestyle magazine.
According to Savoy, individuals selected are “an elite representation of African-American men and women who have been recognized for their executive and business leadership in national and global-leading corporations.” They were “selected based upon their exemplary record of accomplishments and influence while working to better their community and inspire others.”
As described by L.P. Green, II, Publisher of Savoy, “These innovative trailblazers have led efforts to foster growth for some of the country's highest-performing companies throughout and beyond the US market.”
Savoy described Thomas as “highly respected by professional colleagues and industry leaders.” He has been instrumental in advancing Northern Trust Asset Management’s diversity and inclusion efforts through his belief in leading by example. This includes further increasing the firm’s diversity and inclusion profile by appointing four additional women or minorities to its Investment Management Executive Committee, which now has 11 women and minorities out of 15 members. In addition to leading Northern Trust Asset Management, Thomas serves as a member of the Management Group for Northern Trust Corporation.
“We are delighted that Shundrawn has been recognized by Savoy for his work in and outside Northern Trust,” Northern Trust Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Michael O’Grady said. “Throughout his career he has inspired countless individuals not only through his professional work, but also through mentoring and community involvement. His work in promoting diversity and inclusion encompasses a full range of underrepresented groups including minorities, women, veterans, and disabled individuals.”
Thomas is highly involved in his Chicago community, which is his hometown and the headquarters of Northern Trust. He is a trustee for the Museum of Science & Industry, Rush University Medical Center, and Wheaton College. He is a sought-after speaker, media commentator, and the author of four books. Leadership, strategy, investment management, and professional development are among the topics he addresses.
Prior to joining Northern Trust, Thomas served in leadership positions at both Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley. He received a B.S. degree in accounting from Florida A&M University and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He has completed executive education programs in corporate strategy at Chicago Booth School of Business and corporate governance at the University of Notre Dame Mendoza School of Business.
The complete list of those honored by Savoy is in its Spring issue, which is available at www.savoynetwork.com/shop and newsstands worldwide.
