Sibanye Stillwater ( NYSE: SBSW ) said Friday it recorded a maiden lithium mineral reserve of 193.6K metric tons of lithium carbonate equivalent at the end of 2022, while lithium mineral resources more than doubled to 452.9K tons of LCE.
Sibanye ( SBSW ) has been increasing its focus on battery metals such as lithium, and its declaration of a mineral reserve at its Keliber lithium project in Finland follows the completion of a positive feasibility study on the project and approval for its construction.
But the company said 2E platinum group metals mineral reserves - which include platinum and palladium - fell at year-end 2022 after a repositioning of its U.S. PGM operations through enhanced estimation methodologies and consequent updates to the life-of-mine plans.
Year-end PGM mineral reserves totaled 26.3M oz and mineral resources were 84.2M oz, reflecting respective declines of 3.6% and 6.1%, at the Stillwater and East Boulder mines.
Sibanye ( SBSW ) said its South African gold operations mineral reserves remained stable at 12.9M oz and mineral resources at 69.3M oz.
Sibanye Stillwater ( SBSW ) presents a tactical investment opportunity to traders after the stock's significant recent drawdown, Pearl Gray Equity and Research writes in an analysis published recently on Seeking Alpha .
