In an effort to bring more subscribers to its namesake app, SiriusXM Holdings ( NASDAQ: SIRI ) is reportedly closing its Stitcher podcast app later this year.
The Stitcher app is slated to be shut down on August 29, according to Bloomberg , which cited an internal memo.
In the memo, three Sirius ( SIRI ) executives - Chief Product and Technology Officer Joe Inzerillo, Chief Advertising Revenue Officer John Trimble and Chief Content Officer Scott Greenstein - said the decision to shut down the Stitcher podcast app and bring podcasts into the main SiriusXM subscription "will help to drive further growth."
SiriusXM ( SIRI ) did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Seeking Alpha.
Stitcher had 900,000 unique visitors to its app and website as of March 2023, according to the news outlet, which cited data from Comscore.
SiriusXM ( SIRI ) closed its acquisition of Stitcher in October 2020, paying $325M to acquire the unit from The E.W. Scripps Company ( SSP ).
SiriusXM ( SIRI ) shares closed up more than 4.5% to finish at $4.09 on Tuesday.
