Background on Sports Betting in the U.S.
Congress enacted the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) or Bradley Act (in reference to Bill Bradley one of the bill's sponsors) and President George H. W. Bush signed the bill October 28, 1992. PASPA effectively prohibited any sports gambling in the United States, with some minor exceptions (e.g. Las Vegas).
