The ODP Corporation: Nothing Left To See Here

September 22nd was an interesting and probably bittersweet day for shareholders of The ODP Corporation ( ODP ). Shares of the company closed up about 33% after news broke that the firm had agreed to be acquired by Atlas Holdings in an all-cash deal valued at $28.00 per share. This translated to a 34% premium over where the stock closed on September 19th. The reason why I say this is bittersweet is because, while the transaction represents a hefty premium over where the stock was trading previously, it doesn't really represent a premium compared to where the firm has traded in the past. Over the last year, before factoring in this surge in price that we saw on September 22nd, shares were down 28.4%. And over the last five years, the stock has jumped around in a pretty narrow range....
