With a debate about Twitter ( NYSE: TWTR ) spam hot again after the report of a whistleblower complaint concerning fake accounts on the social media platform, the company is merging the teams that work on cutting down toxic content and fakes, Reuters reports.
Twitter will merge the health experience team (working on cutting misinformation and harmful content) with its service team (responsible for taking down spam accounts) into one entity, the Health Products and Services team, Reuters says citing a memo.
"We need teams to focus on specific problems, working together as one team and no longer operating in silos," says the group's leader Ella Irwin, who joined Twitter in June.
Twitter closed the day down 7.3% .
Responding to a complaint filed by former security chief Peiter Zatko, Twitter ( TWTR ) said it stood by its disclosures on spam and bot accounts. Those disclosures largely form the basis of why billionaire Elon Musk says he wants out of his $44B deal to acquire the company. Musk Tuesday received a setback in discovery rulings ahead of a trial over the deal .
