Tri-Continental Corporation ( TY ) is a closed-end fund that provides investors with a method through which they can obtain a very high level of income from the assets that they possess in their portfolios. This fund is, however, not nearly as good at this as many other closed-end funds, as its yield is only 3.56% at the current share price. This is sufficient for the fund to provide a higher level of income than any of the major equity indices, as shown here:
