United Airlines ( NASDAQ: UAL ) CEO Scott Kirby offered insights into dealings with pilots unions and his outlook on travel demand for 2023 in an interview with Bloomberg on Tuesday.
He told the outlet that United will offer an “industry-leading” deal to its pilots, topping already lucrative pay increases inked by American Airlines ( AAL ) and Delta Air Lines ( DAL ). The pilots had previously rejected an offer made by the airline in late 2022.
The carrier is also continuing its plans to aggressively recruit pilots as part of plans announced earlier in 2023 .
Elsewhere, Kirby told Bloomberg that while there is a “business recession” in travel, leisure travel demand remains very robust. As such, demand is expected to remain resilient even if a recession is to come later in the year.
