- United Airlines ( NASDAQ: UAL ) has become the first airline to offer nonstop roundtrip flight service between Washington D.C. and Cape Town, South Africa.
- The airline received approval from the U.S. DoT to operate three weekly direct flights between Washington Dulles and Cape Town, with the inaugural flight scheduled for Nov. 17, 2022. The service remains subject to approval by the South Africa government. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased online or through the United app.
- In 2019, United ( UAL ) started seasonal service between New York/Newark and Cape Town that later was expanded to year-round service in 2022. The air carrier is said to have more flights to South Africa than any other North American airline. It will soon start offering 19 weekly flights to Africa
- The airline recently reported its Q2 results - its first profitable quarter since COVID-19 pandemic. However, it was downgraded to Neutral at Susquehanna due to a deteriorating macroeconomic backdrop and an "unrealistic" forecast offered on earnings day.
- UAL shares opened at $35.77 today, down ~2%
