An oral hearing with the European antitrust regulator in its review of Broadcom's ( NASDAQ: AVGO ) planned $61 billion acquisition of VMware ( NYSE: VMW ) has been penciled in for May 5, according a Dealreporter item.
The report comes after European Commission sent Broadcom ( AVGO ) a statement of objections over its proposed deal to buy VMware ( VMW ) earlier this month.
The EC has until June 21 to make a final decision on the in-depth investigation it opened on December 20.
“We are making progress with our various regulatory filings around the world, having received legal merger clearance in Australia, Brazil, Canada and South Africa, and foreign investment control clearance in Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand and the UK," Broadcom ( AVGO ) told reporter in a statement.
VMware ( VMW ) slipped on Wednesday after the UK's antitrust authority blocked Microsoft's ( MSFT ) planned $69 billion acquisition of Activision ( ATVI ). Late last month the UK's Competition and Markets Authority moved its review of VMware/Broadcom into a Phase 2, or an in-depth investigation .
