BacTech Updates Zero-Tailings(TM) Patent Application to Include Fertilizer Concentration Process
(TheNewswire)
Addition of Reverse Osmosis and Mechanical Vapour RecompressionTechnology Supports Production of Specification-Grade AmmoniumSulphate
TORONTO, ONTARIO — May26, 2026 — TheNewswire - BacTech EnvironmentalCorporation (CSE: BAC | OTCQB: BCCEF)
BacTech Environmental Corporation (“BacTech” orthe “Company”) announces that it has updated its provisionalZero-Tailings™ patent application to include a two-stageconcentration process designed to improve the production efficiency ofammonium sulphate generated from acidic mining-related processstreams.
The revised patent application incorporates ReverseOsmosis (“RO”) pre-concentration and Mechanical VapourRecompression (“MVR”) evaporation technologies into theZero-Tailings™ process flowsheet. These technologies are intended toreduce energy consumption associated with ammonium sulphatecrystallization and support the production of specification-gradefertilizer products.
The Company believes the addition strengthens the scopeof the provisional patent application by extending coverage fromacidic feed streams through to ammonium sulphate recovery andcrystallization.
Many hydrometallurgical and mining operations generateacidic, iron-bearing streams that require neutralization and disposaltreatment. BacTech’s Zero-Tailings™ process is being developed torecover potentially valuable by-products from these streams, includingammonium sulphate, magnetite, and certain base metals.
The Company identified ammonium sulphate concentrationand crystallization as an area requiring additional optimization forcertain mining-derived streams due to their relatively dilute nature.The addition of RO and MVR technologies is intended to improve processefficiency and reduce energy requirements associated with fertilizerproduction.
RO and MVR are commercially established technologiescurrently used in a range of industrial water treatment andevaporation applications. The Company believes the revised provisionalpatent application broadens the technical scope of theZero-Tailings™ process and supports ongoing evaluation of potentialcommercial applications.
The process is intended to reduce waste treatmentrequirements while generating potentially recoverable products fromstreams that are typically treated as waste.
Where appropriate, the RO reject stream can be recycledinto the evaporation circuit, further minimising water consumption andmaximising ammonium sulphate recovery. Condensate from the evaporationstage is also recycled, making the overall process highlywater-efficient — a meaningful advantage in water-stressed miningjurisdictions.
Patent Application andDevelopment Activities
The revised provisional patent application protects thecomplete, commercially Zero-Tailings™ flowsheet from acidic wastestream through to a saleable, specification-grade ammonium sulphatefertilizer product.Management believes the revised provisionalpatent application may:
• expand the technical scope of the Zero-Tailings™process;
• support evaluation of the process across a broader range of feedstreams; and
• preserve the Company’s priority date while patent workcontinues.
