Core & Main ( CNM ) is in a peculiar place. The underlying fundamentals of the business are slowly improving, but the optics are still viewed through the lens of a short-cycle distributor. People generally view Core & Main as a " water pipe wholesaler " that took advantage of the infrastructure bill and now will slow down. The reality of the situation goes way beyond the infrastructure bill. The aging nature of many water networks, leakage loss, water pressure regulations, fire protection upgrades, and municipalities being able to finally invest in decades of underfunding create a demand profile that is less dependent on a single mega-cycle and more focused on a sustained need. CNM is right in the center of this system....
