Community Trust Bancorp: A Downgrade Makes Sense Here

Whenever I rate a company a "Buy," it is my expectation that it will outperform the market for the foreseeable future. Often, this does come to pass. Sometimes, it doesn't. And sometimes, it will, but it takes some time. One player in the banking sector that has disappointed me as of late is Community Trust Bancorp ( CTBI ). Back in June of this year, I decided to reaffirm my "Buy" rating on the stock. I found myself impressed with the asset quality of the company and the strength of its balance sheet. Steady growth in deposits and loans was also promising. I acknowledged at the time that the stock was not cheap. But it was cheap enough, just barely, to maintain a bullish outlook....
