Dime Community Bancshares: Improvements Are Great, But Higher Quality Is Needed

When it comes to investing, I am always very conservative. But I am especially conservative when it comes to the banking sector. This is because it is a space that I believe is more fragile than most other industries. Sometimes, this conservative approach leads to underperformance. Specifically, I am talking about missed opportunities. A good example of this can be seen by looking at Dime Community Bancshares ( DCOM ), a fairly small bank with a market capitalization of $1.58 billion as of this writing. In my last article about the company, published in September of last year, I cautioned investors that an upgrade for the stock was premature. The business was certainly improving leading up to that point. But because of valuation, I remained cautious....
