June 27th ended up being a really interesting and all-around positive day for shareholders of MRC Global ( MRC ) and DNOW ( DNOW ). Shares of both companies rose after news broke that the businesses will be merging in an all stock deal with a combined enterprise value estimated at $3 billion. The similarities between the companies opens up the door for meaningful synergies. On top of this, both companies are already attractively priced. So even if synergies do not come to fruition, I see this as a value accretive move....
