ETG: A Consistent Income Payer With Global Equity Exposure, 7.3% Yield

Introduction:

Eaton Vance Tax-Advantaged Global Dividend Income Fund ( ETG ) was launched in January 2004 as a closed-end fund. The fund's primary objective is to provide a high level of after-tax income. Capital appreciation is the secondary objective. It currently provides a roughly 7.4% distribution yield, and the market price offers nearly a -6% discount to the NAV (net asset value). As the name indicates, the fund tries to make the distributions in an efficient tax manner as much as possible. To make distributions tax efficient, it provides some of the distribution as ROC (return of capital). So, in that sense, it may be better to buy this fund in a taxable account. Also, it is global in nature, split evenly between the US and other countries. Further, it provides some limited exposure to fixed-income securities as it is split 85:15 between equities and fixed income....
