Junior Hits Key Milestone in Squaring AI's Design Problem

The conversation around AI infrastructure keeps shifting. First it was compute. Then cooling. Now the pressure point is power. As next-generation data centers push toward higher density GPU clusters, the industry is moving toward 800V DC architectures to handle the load more efficiently. That shift is creating a new opportunity for companies capable of delivering high-efficiency power conversion at scale.
Shares of Hillcrest Energy Technologies Ltd. ( CSE: HEAT ) ( OTCQB: HLRTF ) are trading higher Thursday after the company announced it has finalized the A-Sample design of its ZVS PCS1000, a 250 kW, 800V DC sidecar power module built for next-generation AI data centers.
Hillcrest is developing advanced power conversion systems based on its proprietary Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) platform, targeting applications across AI infrastructure, microgrids, and electric vehicle power systems. The A-Sample milestone locks in the PCS1000’s architecture, form factor, and performance specifications ahead of prototype demonstrations scheduled for June 2026.
The module is designed in a 19-inch, 4 rack unit form factor, delivering up to 250 kW of continuous output at 800V DC. Its modular design allows systems to scale beyond 1 MW through parallel deployment, aligning with the Open Compute Project’s Mt. Diablo sidecar architecture, which converts traditional 400/480V AC grid power into high-voltage DC for direct distribution to IT racks.
Hillcrest’s ZVS technology is the core differentiator. By switching power transistors at zero voltage, the system reduces switching losses that limit conventional designs. The PCS1000 is targeting peak efficiency above 99%, compared to roughly 98% for traditional hard-switched converters. The higher switching frequency, operating around 48 kHz, also allows for smaller passive components and increased power density within the same footprint.
Beyond efficiency, the system incorporates grid fault ride-through capability, allowing it to remain connected during short-duration voltage or frequency disturbances. That feature is critical in large-scale data center environments, where power interruptions can trigger cascading failures.
Prototype demonstrations are scheduled to begin in June 2026 at facilities in Vancouver and Germany, with the company already in discussions with potential partners across data center, energy storage, and grid-connected markets.
“Finalizing the design of the ZVS PCS1000 A-Sample is a significant step in advancing the deployment of our ZVS technology,” said CEO Don Currie, pointing to efficiency, power quality, and EMI performance as key advantages.
While still in the pre-commercial stage, the milestone positions Hillcrest within a rapidly evolving segment of AI infrastructure, where efficient power delivery is becoming just as critical as compute itself.
Shares of HEAT are ahead 9.7% to C$0.17 in Thursday morning trading, while shares of HLRTF have advanced 3.7% to $0.1245.
