2025 was the worst year for quality on record. I don't mean underperformance in the normal sense — I mean the MSCI USA Sector Neutral Quality Index lagged its parent by about 6.4% for the full year, and after Liberation Day the unprofitable names were outrunning the profitable ones by nearly 20%. The piñata stocks were all anyone wanted. Meanwhile, the companies actually generating free cash flow and maintaining clean balance sheets got left behind....
