Ovintiv Inc. ( OVV ) has spent years unwinding the mess created under prior CEO Doug Suttles, a business directive that was biased towards multi-basin diversification and scale at all costs. Granted, that shotgun-style approach to growth was not unusual during the early days of shale, but Ovintiv stuck to that methodology far longer than it should have, and with it at one time having exposure to six different basins, it has taken time to properly dispose of these holdings. Despite what I would call decent to good results within its drilling programs, it's been hard to be bullish for much of the past five years because there was so much to be done....
