Summary

  • The Eaton Vance Tax-Advantaged Dividend Income Fund offers an attractive 8.04% yield, ideal for income-seeking investors, despite underperforming the S&P 500 Index.
  • The EVT closed-end fund primarily invests in dividend-paying common and preferred stocks, providing some inflation protection along with income.
  • The fund's leverage strategy enhances yield but carries risks; however, its current leverage is lower than peers, reducing investor risk exposure.
  • Trading at an 8.28% discount to NAV, the fund is reasonably priced, with a lower expense ratio compared to similar funds.
  • The fund fully covered its distribution in the most recent fiscal year, and managed to reduce its expense ratio slightly.

Dow Jones Industrial Average ( DIA )

Russell 2000 Index ( IWM )

One problem with high valuations is that it drags down the yield provided by the assets in question, which, as we can see, has now resulted in most American equities having a lower yield than a high-yield savings account that can be obtained from an online bank. Indeed, there are even some checking accounts with higher yields than most domestic equity indices. As such, if an investor is trying to earn income from the assets in their portfolios, they need something better than an ordinary broad-market index fund....
