Back in April of 2025, I decided to analyze , for the first time, Smithfield Foods, Inc. ( SFD ). As a certified foodie, I love digging into food-oriented businesses. But often, these opportunities are underwhelming. Almost without exception, this is a space that suffers from severe competition. Commoditized goods translate to low profit margins and revenue and earnings volatility. Every so often, I find an opportunity that just makes sense though. Unfortunately, Smithfield Foods was not one of those. At the end of the day, despite the company looking attractively priced, its inconsistent financial performance justified a Hold rating....
