TAL and the Broader EdTech Industry
My ongoing analysis of the EdTech industry would be incomplete without mentioning TAL Education Group ( TAL ), an acronym for 'Tomorrow Advancing Life.' TAL is distinct from the two previous EdTech stocks I've covered: Pearson plc ( PSO ) and Coursera ( COUR ). Not only is TAL based in China, but it also focuses on a different segment of the education industry: the non-K-12 segment. Founded in 2003 as Xueersi, it received a government permit to change its name (to TAL Education Group) in 2013 after going public on the NYSE in 2010. TAL, according to its 'About Us' page, sees itself as:
[A] technology company that leverages its content and technical capabilities to focus on science education, science innovation, and science popularization as strategic directions to empower lifelong growth and drive ongoing innovation."
