Playing Real-Life Monopoly: How I'm Building Lasting Wealth

Introduction

I haven’t played the Monopoly game in many years, yet I continue to think about it on a very frequent basis. That’s based on two reasons (I will eventually cover both on Seeking Alpha):

• I believe the current economy is similar to a game of Monopoly in its late stages. Some players have built massive wealth and are now battling it out amongst each other, while others are asset-less and somehow kept alive through loans and charity. I’m not a socialist (far from it), but in recent years, we’ve seen this in the K-shaped economic recovery, programs like direct payments to consumers, and other artificial measures to support the growing lower class. AI adds another, much more complex layer to this.
• Investing is often like playing Monopoly. It’s all about buying the right assets to get ahead in the “game” we call life, the road to financial freedom, or whatever fits your situation best.
