VNQ: Sell Your REIT ETFs

Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) have become very popular for investors. Formed legally in 1960, they were added by Standard & Poor's to its indexes for the first time in late 2001. In 2015, it added to its index sub-sectors a new category, REITs, pulling them out of Financials. There are several large REIT ETFs now that I track, including the iShares U.S. Real Estate ETF ( IYR ), formed in 2000; the Real Estate Select Sector SPDR® Fund ETF ( XLRE ), formed in 2015; and the Vanguard Real Estate Index Fund ETF Shares ( VNQ ), formed in 2004. These three ETFs range from $3.6 billion for IYR, the oldest, to $34.2 billion for VNQ, a total of $45.7 billion....
