AON - Aon confirms Phase II review of WLTW merger by European Commission

Aon ([[AON]] +0.5%) confirms that the European Commission started a second phase review of its Aon's proposed merger with Willis Towers Watson ([[WLTW]] +0.4%).The review is a common step "for a transaction of this size and complexity under EU Merger Regulation," Aon said.In addition, "the firm remains on track to close the combination in the first half of 2021," the company said.Aon said it's confident of a positive outcome of the review without any divestitures, reiterating that two companies' businesses are complementary across broad, competitive areas of the economy.In August, WLTW shareholders approved the proposed combination, which was announced in March.
