JL Images/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Aon (AON) and Willis Towers Watson (WLTW) reportedly never got a so-called "last rites" meeting with Dept. of Justice before the antitrust agency decided to bring a lawsuit to block the deal. The companies had a meeting a prior week, but didn't get the traditional meeting where companies can try to provide some final remedies to try to assuage the regulators concerns, according to a CTFN report from yesterday, which cited a source familiar. The companies appeared to be "surprised" by the government's lawsuit. CTFN previously reported that the parties were prepared to offer more remedies in health benefits consulting and corporate risk broking. Aon fell 0.7%, while Willis Towers dropped 2.4%. Earlier, Citi cuts Everest Re Group to neutral as inflation fears pick up, likes AON despite lawsuit. Yesterday, AON likely to offer more divestitures to get DOJ approval for Willis Towers, analysts say.
