ET - Army Corps issues update that could shut the Dakota Access Pipeline
The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe will find out today if the Dakota Access Pipeline, which passes through its territory, will be temporarily be shut down for review. The pipeline is controlled by Energy Transfer Partners (ET), with minority interest from Phillips 66 (PSX) and affiliates of Enbridge (ENB) and Marathon Petroleum (MPC).Under investigation is whether the 570,000 bbl/day crude oil line out of North Dakota has (or will have) an impact on drinking water and the local environment. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will unveil its assessment following protests from the the tribe and environmentalists.If the pipeline is shut down, it could be a bad omen for other U.S. pipeline projects that are being constructed or are facing major protests from activists.
