SLM - Attention School Counselors and Community Leaders: Nominate a High School Student for a $25000 Scholarship From Sallie Mae

Company Will Award $225,000 in Scholarships as Part of its Bridging the Dream Scholarship Program; Accepting Nominations Now Through Sept. 26

Sallie Mae® will again award college scholarships to high school juniors and seniors through its annual Bridging the Dream Scholarship Program. This year, the company will award nine $25,000 scholarships to students across the country. Since 2016, Sallie Mae has awarded more than $500,000 in scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students through the program.

Now through Sept. 26, school counselors and community leaders can nominate students who have excelled both inside and outside of the classroom, but whose financial circumstances or other obstacles in life may not allow them to pursue a college education. The company will announce recipients later this year.

“As a counselor and nominator of a student who was awarded a $25,000 Bridging the Dream Scholarship, I know firsthand the positive impacts this award has on the student, their family, and most importantly, their trajectory in life,” said Shannan Beck, director of school counseling services, St. Elizabeth School and nominator of 2018 recipient Ardavia Lee. “I plan to submit nominations again this year and every year that this program is offered, and I would encourage my colleagues around the country to do the same.”

Last year’s Bridging the Dream Scholarship Program recipients, nominated by school counselors or leaders of their local community were: Joe Bell of Gladstone, Missouri; Simone Dobosh of Elizabeth, Pennsylvania; Essence Duplechain of Houston, Texas; Jenna Frezza of Hammond, Indiana; Thanh Le of West Valley City, Utah; Ardavia Lee of New Castle, Delaware; and Doug Sullivan of Saraland, Alabama. Learn more about each of the recipients at SallieMae.com/BridgingTheDream.

“High school counselors and community leaders are uniquely positioned to identify and nominate those exceptional students whose academic achievements, commitment to service, and personal triumphs deserve both recognition and reward,” said Martha Holler, senior vice president, Sallie Mae. “The Bridging the Dream Scholarship exemplifies, in name and intent, Sallie Mae’s commitment to help students and families across the country make college happen.”
