President Joe Biden has announced that his administration will require all employees in nursing homes to get vaccinated for COVID-19, Reuters reports. “Today I’m announcing a new step,” Biden said in a speech at the White House. “If you work in a nursing home and serve people on Medicare or Medicaid, you will also be required to get vaccinated.” The announcement comes following study data that showed effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines for residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities wanes since the Delta variant became dominant in U.S. Researchers from CDC analyzed weekly data to evaluate effectiveness of full vaccination with any of the two currently authorized mRNA COVID-19 vaccines, developed by Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) - BioNTech (NASDAQ:BNTX) and Moderna (NASDAQ:MRNA), spanning across March 1 to May 9 (pre-Delta) to June 21–August 1, 2021, when the Delta variant predominated.
