The biotech group closed 2019 with its longest rally of the year. It was a welcome change from what had mostly been an uphill battle. While the broader market was sailing from one high to another, biotechs and pharmaceuticals (biopharma) were still marking their 2019 lows in early October. But a confluence of events, including favorable political/regulatory outcomes, acted as a catalyst in pushing the indexes to a positive year after a decline in 2018. The Nasdaq Biotech Index (IBB) sharply rose for 2019 and so did the Prudent Biotech model portfolio.
