LEU - Centrus completes HALEU readiness review gets NRC OK to process uranium

Centrus Energy ( NYSE: LEU ) +4.2% in Thursday's trading after saying it completed its operational readiness reviews with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and received NRC approval to possess uranium through the centrifuges at its Piketon, Ohio, site.

Centrus ( LEU ) said the approval is "a critical milestone in advancing toward first-of-a-kind production of High-Assay, Low-Enriched Uranium," and that it remains on track to begin production by the end of this year.

The company said construction of the cascade of centrifuges and most of the support systems is now complete, and it also has finished initial testing of these systems; next steps include completing construction of the on-site HALEU storage area and conducting final testing activities prior to operation, with initial HALEU production set to begin by year-end 2023.
