STLD - European Union U.S. confirm truce on metals tariffs launch further talks
The European Union says it agreed to a partial truce with the U.S. in a dispute over U.S. metals tariffs imposed by former president Trump, suspending a proposed hike in its retaliatory tariffs that would have added a number of products and doubled duties to 50% on others.The U.S. will maintain its current tariffs of 25% on steel and 10% on aluminum, which also apply to imports from China, India, Russia, Turkey, Norway and Switzerland.ETFs: [[SLX]], [[JJU]], [[JJUB]]Potentially relevant tickers include [[X]], [[CLF]], [[NUE]], [[STLD]], [[CMC]], [[MT]], [[AA]], [[CENX]], [[TYEKF]], [[VLPNF]]In a joint statement, the U.S. and European trade representatives say they are looking to "find solutions before the end of the year" that will address the overcapacity in the steel sector.Former president Trump initiated the tariffs in March 2018.
