LMT - Greece submits request to buy 20 Lockheed F-35 fighter jets
Lockheed Martin ( NYSE: LMT ) +1.8% in Thursday's trading as Greece sent an official request to the U.S. to purchase of 20 F-35 fighter jets , and Prime Minister Mitsotakis said Greece is considering the purchase of a second group of the jets.
"Our intention is to acquire an F-35 squadron with a possible option for a second one. Sending a Letter of Request which has happened in the past few days is part of this process," Mitsotakis told reporters after a NATO summit, according to Reuters.
Greece has ramped up its military purchases in recent years as tensions with neighbor Turkey have resurfaced.
Earlier this week, the Biden administration said it would support the potential sale of General Dynamics' ( GD ) F-16 fighter jets to Turkey, after the country lifted its opposition to NATO membership for Finland and Sweden .
Lockheed Martin ( LMT ) was awarded a $2.3B contract to build at least 120 H-60M Black Hawk helicopters for the U.S. military .
