Grocery stores are starting to run up against the tough pantry-loading comparable from a year ago as expected. During March, grocery stores saw a 13.8% drop in sales compared to the same month in 2020 when lockdowns first started and grocery stores saw long lines. Analysts have been warning that Q2 sales comparables will be tough to match for the sector, although some costs related to the pandemic should below. Sector watch: Kroger (KR), Albertsons (ACI), Grocery Outlet Holdings (GO), Sprouts Farmers Market (SFM), Weis Markets (WMK), Village Super Markets (VLGEA) and Ingles Markets (IMKTA).The same effect is likely in play for retail giants Target (TGT) and Walmart (WMT).
