As the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq chugged higher again on Monday, Wall Street kept an eye on the harrowing images out of New Orleans, where Hurricane Ida hit the Gulf coast 16 years after Hurricane Katrina. In stock market terms, the storm weighed on shares in the insurance industry. Allstate (NYSE:ALL), Progressive (NYSE:PGR), Travelers (NYSE:TRV) and Chubb (NYSE:CB) all lost ground on the day. Turning to other disasters, Astra Space (NASDAQ:ASTR) was one of the day's biggest percentage decliners. The decline came after one of its rockets failed to reach orbit. Meanwhile, Wheels Up Experience Inc. (NYSE:UP) dropped again, reaching its lowest level since coming public in a SPAC deal. Looking at some of the day's winners, Affirm (NASDAQ:AFRM) represented a major standout to the upside. Shares skyrocketed on a partnership with Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN).
